Lions, Tigers and Bears – Oh MY! Party
Lions, Tigers and Bears – Oh MY!
Halloween is an exciting time for children, but safety should always be a priority, especially when trick-or-treating or attending a Halloween party. Here are essential safety tips to ensure a fun and secure Halloween for kids aged 5-15.
Costume Safety:
Avoid overly long outfits that could cause tripping, and choose flame-resistant materials. If the costume includes a mask, make sure it allows for clear vision and easy breathing.
Supervision is Key:
For younger children, it’s important to have a trusted adult accompany them. Older children should stick to a group and always share their route with a parent or guardian. Set a clear curfew to ensure they return home safely.
Traffic Awareness:
Children should be reminded to stay on sidewalks and cross streets at corners or designated crosswalks. Teach them to look both ways before crossing and never assume drivers can see them, especially in the dark. Use reflective tape or glow sticks to make children visible in the dark.
Candy Inspection:
Before allowing children to eat any candy, an adult should inspect it. Discard any unwrapped, suspicious, or homemade treats from strangers. Stick to factory-sealed treats.
Party Safety:
At Halloween parties, ensure a safe environment by limiting the number of attendees and avoiding dangerous games. If attending a large public event, establish a meeting spot in case anyone gets separated. Make sure that the party has plenty of Chaperons and a clear start and end time. Never feel guilty about picking up your child(ren) early and make sure they are able to call to ask to come home early if they wish.
Stranger Safety:
Remind children to never enter a stranger’s home or vehicle while trick-or-treating, even if invited. Always approach well-lit houses and avoid dark or isolated areas. Use the Buddy System at all times.
